Schoenberg would be proud

Ever want to try your hand at composing?

I found this website that allows you to create a composition in a serialistic manner by assigning a note value to a series of intergers, then "playing" the piece by sounding each note in the order that its corresponding interger appears in the number pi. It will play out to the 10,000th decimal.

Happy Birthday Mr. Sondheim

Seventy-six years ago today, Stephen Sondheim was born. Arguably the greatest musical theater writer currently alive, Sondheim first made a name for himself writing the lyrics for West Side Story followed shortly there after by becoming the lyricist for Gypsy. But Sondheim really got the chance to shine when he took to composing the music as well as the lyrics. The number of hit musicals he's had is too high for me to even guess at here. Happy Birthday Stephen Sondheim, hope you have many more.

Your a Big Girl Now

Tom Liwa has a free MP3 of Dylan's Big Girl Now at his site. His cover has some very nice sax riffs.
